literature analysis book #2

The story i read over the weeks was the book called Hatchet. The book involves a young man named brian who is going on a trip to see his father, since his parents are divorced. When brian is on the plane, and up in the there, his pilot has a heart attack while flying the plane and brian has to think fast. He tries to manage the plane, but soon the plane crashes onto a river. And brian is stuck in the woods, and trying to survive.

The theme of the story was not to give up/ survival. Because in the story, he is left in the woods trying to survive everything he encounters. He encounters a bear that he saw, the bear almost attacked him, but soon left. Brian had many struggles through out the story. Many things that could actually happen.

Based on what the author gave his character brian, i would say he is a  sad person. Because in the story, brian talks about the secret that led to his mother and fathers divorce. He starts to be fearful of his surroundings. There is very little distance in his thoughts, because he always thinks of the bad, and thinking what if no one finds me.

I found a metaphor i found was on chapter 3. page 25, the narrator says "his stomach tighten into a series of rolling knots, and his breath came in short burst". As for a simile i found in chapter 5, page 50 "gradually sloshing like oil, his thoughts settled back, and the panic was gone"

The author wants the reader to feel, and imagine the sadness/ fear in brian. The author is making us go into brians shoes, and see how we would feel if the reader was in the same situation.
