1. In the beginning of the story, we obviously get a vibe of seeing that this America is a dystopia. "It was a pleasure to burn". That indicates that Firemen are meant to burn things, instead of taking the fire out. The society is almost simliar like ours. We barely see people walking on the streets anymore, and if they the people in cars will stare at you. (i had my fair share of walking a long way to places. I've seen this before)And in Fahrenheit 451, Clarisse talks about her uncle being a pedestrian and no one being on the sidewalk. Almost similar to our society.
2. Clarisse is special because Montag is struck by her. He has never met someone who asks "why" instead of "how". She takes walks for her enjoyment and to relax. Not everyone does this kind of thing on a regular basis.
3.The mechanical hound senses that Montag is hoarding books illegally.
